Why is vehicle maintenance important?

In most cases, we can get your vehicle services done in the same day you bring it in.

Proper vehicle maintenance is crucial for several reasons. Neglecting regular maintenance tasks can lead to a decline in performance, increased fuel consumption, and even potential safety hazards.

Here are some key reasons why vehicle maintenance should be a top priority:

  • Improved Performance: A well-maintained vehicle performs at its best. Regular oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups contribute to a smoother and more efficient engine performance. This results in better acceleration, fuel efficiency, and overall driving experience.
  •  Safety: Regular maintenance ensures that your vehicle is operating safely on the road. Components such as brakes, tires, and suspension need to be in good condition to ensure optimal safety. Ignoring maintenance can lead to the failure of these critical safety systems, increasing the risk of accidents.
  •  Longevity: Taking care of your vehicle through proper maintenance can extend its lifespan. Regularly changing fluids, inspecting and replacing worn-out parts, and addressing minor issues promptly can prevent major breakdowns and costly repairs down the line. With proper care, your vehicle can stay reliable and functional for a longer period.
  •  Cost Savings: While maintenance may require an investment upfront, it can save you a significant amount of money in the long run. Timely maintenance helps identify and fix minor issues before they escalate into major problems. A small repair can be much more affordable than a complete system failure or breakdown.
  •  Resale Value: Well-maintained vehicles generally have higher vehicle resale value. Potential buyers appreciate a vehicle that has been properly cared for and may be willing to pay a higher price for it. Regular maintenance records also demonstrate your commitment to keeping the vehicle in good condition, which can make it more attractive to buyers.
  •  Environmental Impact: A properly maintained vehicle has a reduced environmental impact. Regularly changing air filters, ensuring proper tire inflation, and promptly fixing exhaust or emission-related issues contribute to lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency. By taking care of your vehicle, you are also taking care of the environment.

Vehicle maintenance is of utmost importance to ensure safety, optimize performance, extend the lifespan of your vehicle, and save money in the long run. By staying on top of maintenance tasks and following manufacturer guidelines, you can enjoy a reliable and efficient vehicle for years to come.

LOCAL OIL CHANGE

Why It’s Important to Change Your Oil

An oil change is a simple and inexpensive service, but it is not a service you should ignore. Oil is a lubricant for your engine and all its moving parts. It also works to stop dirt and other particles that can accumulate and keep moving parts moving. Through regular use, oil will become dirty, less viscous, and unable to perform as intended. This can result in damage to gaskets, seals, or to the engine as a whole.

Conventional, Synthetic, and High Mileage Service

Big City Automotive provides professional oil change service in the Peoria  Metro area, and we know\ how to keep your vehicle running for many years. Every car is different and may need a different type of oil. Vehicles that require conventional oil should have their oil changed about every 3,000 miles. If you use full synthetic oil and synthetic blends, you can get more mileage out of your oil and extend routine service intervals to 5,000 and sometimes even up to 10,000 miles.

If you're  not sure what  oil you should use, or when to have your car serviced, call us at (((309) 339-7302 or stop by our shop and we'll be happy to help you.

Diesel Maintenance

Although diesel engines don't require tune-ups and tend to last longer than gasoline engines, they do require regular maintenance.

  Typical maintenance tasks include:

  • Changing the oil & filter
  • Changing the air filter
  • Changing the fuel filter
  • Bleeding the fuel system
  • Draining the water separators
  • Refilling the urea injection system

You can count on the experts at Big City Automotive to help your diesel engine last a long time.

Fuel Injection

Fuel injection is a system for admitting fuel into an engine. Since 1990, fuel injectors have completely replaced carburetors as the primary means of getting gasoline into the engine. A fuel injector atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle (under high pressure). Failure of the fuel injection system means poor performance and ultimately destroys the engine. Make sure your vehicle's fuel injection system is maintained properly.

Ignition & Ignition Cables

An ignition system is a system for igniting  a mixture of fuel and air in a gasoline engine (using an electric spark). A properly working ignition system means a properly starting engine and high performance from your car.

Ignition cables also known as spark plug wires are an important part of your car's ignition system. They transfer the spark from the ignition coil to spark plugs that ignite the mixture of fuel and air. The mixture starts the engine. Over time, ignition wires and cables get weak and break down. This makes it impossible for the spark to reach the engine cylinders. This results in the engine misfiring. The car will eventually fail to start. If it does start, it will run poorly.

Common symptoms of faulty ignition cables and wires are: poor gas mileage, engine misfires, engine light is on, and engine may vibrate.

Oil, Lube, and Filter

To keep running smoothly, your car highly relies on oil, lube, and oil filters. Oil helps in lubricating, cooling, and cleaning the internal engine components. With time, motor oil becomes contaminated. Your car needs an oil, lube, and filter change every three months (or 3,000 miles).

Spark Plugs

A spark plug delivers electric current to the combustion chamber from the ignition system. Spark plugs that haven't been changed for a long time can cause ignition problems.
